Georgia Bulldogs extend Mike Bobo, Glenn Schumann through 2029

Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann received contract extensions through January 2029, keeping both on Kirby Smart’s staff through the next two seasons.

What happened?

Bobo’s deal now runs through Jan. 31, 2029 after an amendment signed on Jan. 12. His base salary rises from $2.2 million this year to $2.3 million in February 2027 and $2.4 million in February 2028. Schumann’s contract was extended to the same end date, with identical annual raises. Both coordinators were already under contract through mid-2028 before the new pacts.

Why it matters for Georgia Bulldogs

The extensions lock in continuity for a staff that helped Georgia win back-to-back SEC titles and reach the College Football Playoff for a second straight year. Bobo’s offense averaged 32.1 points per game in 2025, good for sixth in the SEC, while the Bulldogs upped their rushing average from 124.4 yards in 2024 to 182.1. First-year starter Gunner Stockton finished seventh in the Heisman Trophy voting under Bobo’s system.

Schumann enters his fourth season as defensive coordinator and has been on Smart’s staff since 2016. He served as co-defensive coordinator with Will Muschamp in 2022. The new contracts add a clause requiring written approval from the athletic director before discussing NIL terms with any current or prospective player.

What’s next for Georgia Bulldogs?

The Bulldogs open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Tennessee State. Both coordinators will look to build on last year’s offensive surge and defensive consistency as Georgia eyes another SEC run and playoff push.

The extensions also tighten the staff’s rules around recruiting. A new paragraph bars coordinators from soliciting third-party funds for the team without prior written approval. They also can’t discuss NIL deals with recruits or players unless cleared by the athletic director.
